Transition Planning

Although the departure of an organization’s Executive Director is a time of great challenge, it is also an opportunity for the organization to consider its future directions and to evaluate the skills and leadership characteristics needed for that future.

I have guided organizations by:

  • Designing and implementing a board survey and retreat to identify current organizational challenges and opportunities and the skills and leadership qualities needed to address them
  • Conducting a staff survey and focus groups to address the leadership needs from their perspective and to address staff concerns about the transition itself
  • Preparing a communication plan
  • Developing a job description and position announcement
  • Identifying a search firm or supporting the board committee charged with conducting a search
